I had a small serious discussion with my friend about whether there is fundamental difference in term of music preference in gender.

So far, there is no definite answer. There are small category of works that seems to attract male or female more, but that's not absolute either. (eg. mathrock) but as time progresses I suspect the work will spread and gets picked up by everybody.

i thought the list was great. intuitively, i suspected that it was created by someone male, without any preconceived criterion about how one posts regardless of their gender.

"But I still get to start the food fight."

bring it on!!! x

mayumi said... sooo middleschool... "

I had a bland middle school years. I am compensating. This time I start the food fight.

but seriously, in term of general music preference I don't think gender play as much role as most people think. What people listen on the background, general cultural scene during formative year, mass media play bigger role than straight up boys vs. girls.

Of course there are works with that in mind, consciously aware of gender status during creation. Most what I like are difficult and unfamiliar. And when right come down to it, most people don't have time contextualising or enjoying constant bombarment of new material.

Personally, I think I try to be aware of that sort of thing. There are limitation and failures no doubt, but if people follow what I post, I can argue that I do post less mainstream, new works done by women.

Should I establish different criteria? I don't think that's fair, specially if I try to present the works as "good" music. Equal among the greatest.

But on the other hand, I do post a lot of dorky lists. I also try to explore new area that I feel I have to spend time.

But all in all, I have to agree that the whole thing need revamping. The general character of MP3 blog in is still very much one way musical consumption. A person post, another listen/read/download.

So I would encourage everybody to chime in and give input.

But I still get to start the food fight. haa...

have to agree with anonymous on the 'boy' list part. i thought it was a bit of a male playlist, hence my add.

but, no squashed, it's not typical :-)

hey hey hey..... "typical"? :P

admitedly the live 'shellac' track is too loud. and the list should have stop with Pere Ubu. but I love the opening 'clap', the drum and steve entrance. It has studied melancholic quality to it. My brain just demand a math rock piece in it to balance the labradford track. I didn't make this list late at night, so I want some action.

Plus, I got to make people listen to shellac. Take that world! :P

......okay fine. I'll make a perfectly smooth deep night mood list.
