And when the pleasure is done
why don’t I want to know it all
And when the measurings done
Somehow I already know it all
-Luscious Jackson, Stardust
Note: A list following Ensemble’s ‘Disown‘ track, primarily exploring voice phrasing in slower tempo jazz. Me’shell’s near speech delivery, Merrill’s slow rendition of Summertime and my fav. Cassandra Wilson’s intrpretation of classic blues work. She very well could be this generation most neglected singer and jazz/blues interpreter. What is interesting on slow works, all texture and singers craftmanship shows up like detail in a close up macro pictures. Every single syllabels and breath count and reveal intentions. etc. enjoy.

This are nice, you’re right about merrill and cassandra wilson interpretations they’re very good. Is that something of the latest neneh cherry album?
lovely. sitting in a blizzard, this music is perfect for a white, cold, and beautiful day….
moka Is that something of the latest neneh cherry album? ”
no, it’s from her second album, “Homebrew”. I was cleanng up my CD mess the other day. I am not sure what she is doing now. Do you know she is the daughter of Don Cherry? the famous freejazzist?
She’s also the sister of Eagle Eye Cherry, and she was one of the arrangers on Massive Attack’s Blue Lines. Her newborn baby was the reason why Robert Del Naja’s most vivid memory of recording Blue Lines was the smell of nappies.
Neneh’s hanging out with her family and some friends in a collaboration called Cirkus. They just finished a small club tour in France. She’s done 3-4 guest vocals a year for the last 10 years with all kinds of people — Pulp, Gorillaz, Teddybears, … — and might be thinking about a new solo album. See http://www.cirkustent.com and their myspace page (myspace.com\cirkus) for current info
heya. thanks for the info Dan.
