Three 2 a.m. Lists (Confianzas)

Note: second in the series. It originally was a far more political list, before turning a late night downtempo. Sort of soft yet restless and glowing undercurrent. The harder pieces sticks out a little, but I don’t feel like tweaking it much longer. etc. enjoy.

I like Confianzas a lot. This list is really centered on that song. lyrics.

It’s how words and music texture can really stir. I love it.

coman mejor o él mismo coma viva mejor

one feels to the table and it writes “with this poem you will not take the power” says “with these verses you will not make the Revolution” says “nor with thousands of verses you will make the Revolution” says and more: those verses do not have to serve to him stops that hacheros masterful laborers live better eat or he himself alive coma better better nor to enamor to one they will serve to him he will not gain silver with them he will not enter the cinema with them free they will not give clothes him by them he will not obtain tobacco or he came by them neither papagayos nor scarfs nor boats neither bulls nor umbrella will obtain by them if by them it go to rain will wet it it will not reach pardon or grace by them “with this poem you will not take the power” says “with these verses you will not make the Revolution” says “nor with thousands of verses you will make the Revolution” says one feels to the table and it writes

Confianzas is a great song indeed - the whole playlist is very good, I wasn’t even aware of a miles collaboration with john lee hooker loved the song is the whole album as good as this one?

Here’s my translation for the song:

He sits on the table and writes:
“With this poem you will not take the power” he says
“With this verses you wont make revolution” he says
“Nor with a thousand verses will you make revolution”

Even more: this verses shall not serve the peasants
to live better, to eat better and wont serve yourself to eat better.
Not even for making a woman fall in love with you will they be useful.

You will not gain money with them
You will not have free tickets to the cinema with them
You wont get clothes for them
You wont get wine or tobacco with them

Nor papagayos (a kind of bird?) nor scarfs nor boats
nor bulls nor umbrellas will you get for them.
If it were for them they’d allow rain to damp you
You will not reach grace or pardon with them.

He sits on the table and writes:
“With this poem you will not take the power” he says
“With this verses you wont make revolution” he says
“Nor with a thousand verses you will make revolution”

    Confianzas has very sexy voice.

There is another small ambient track with very nice sexy voice. I have to post that. It’s actually a voice recording of the ring member of ring member of 70’s famous violent group. In an odd way it’s very melancholic.

Confianzas has that melancholic, yet detached voice. I didn’t even check what the lyric is until I post today.

    - John Lee vs. Miles Davis. That’s the only track I like from the entire album. I was surfing the net and bump into this one guy’s jazz site. The album didn’t mash up very well. It’s more like a loose jam session. John Lee playing his blues and Miles playing softly in the background. It’s shadowy instead of elegant play. I was hoping more.

I’ll post Miles’ stuff if you like. I am going to do one of those lazy/obvious downtempo list later.

the ‘confianzas’ song, weird in a good way.. the beat, the tango background and the lyrics make a rather odd -yet good!- combination

    i didnt see that coming

Starting out on the list now, listening to the John Lee Hooker thing and I think it sounds sampled. John Lee Hooker sounds uncharacteristically repetitive and I seem to recognize the humming part and some of the licks from his song ‘Tupelo.’ So: are you sure it’s not a mash-up record by some DJ?

  9. Mads said, March 21, 2007 @ 4:27 pm

In an attempt to answer my own question

I found these looking for the context:

    http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Spot-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B0000047BA
    http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3810262&JRSource=nsa&nsa=1

It doesn’t definitively settle the case, but at least a whole bunch of jazz musicians are credited along with John Lee Hooker, which I suppose indicates that they recorded these sessions for the soundtrack, since no producer or DJ is mentioned.

That’s it for me. Thank you, good night!

I am not sure. but it sounds like a recording session to me instead of sampling. In most songs, you can really hear Miles trying to fit in the background whil Lee is playing.
