I am not sure. but it sounds like a recording session to me instead of sampling. In most songs, you can really hear Miles trying to fit in the background whil Lee is playing.

In an attempt to answer my own question

I found these looking for the context:

http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Spot-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B0000047BA
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3810262&JRSource=nsa&nsa=1

It doesn't definitively settle the case, but at least a whole bunch of jazz musicians are credited along with John Lee Hooker, which I suppose indicates that they recorded these sessions for the soundtrack, since no producer or DJ is mentioned.

That's it for me. Thank you, good night!

Starting out on the list now, listening to the John Lee Hooker thing and I think it sounds sampled. John Lee Hooker sounds uncharacteristically repetitive and I seem to recognize the humming part and some of the licks from his song 'Tupelo.' So: are you sure it's not a mash-up record by some DJ?

the 'confianzas' song, weird in a good way.. the beat, the tango background and the lyrics make a rather odd -yet good!- combination

i didnt see that coming
