SXSW 2007 (Part.2)

Second part from SXSW 2007. While compiling this list, I was trying to figure out if there is new trend I need to pick up. To be honest, after downloading and listening to some 400 songs, I have no idea which is what. So I ended up doing the usual thing. Get rid of anything that I don’t like (metallica clone), split it up into daytime or mellower night time, then try to make an interesting list by randomly clicking and catch anything interesting.

This one is a generic day time pop/rock. Or maybe early evening. I’ll call it the “Spaghetti Incident” list. They are really standard rock, familiar and comfy. Not edgy yet somewhat noticeable. It’s A blend of mid tempo southern rock with a sprinkle of euro twist. Gentle and catchy pop: Tacks, the Boy Disaster, Toubab Krewe. I like their rythm section.

BTW, if somebody want more SXSW list, just say it.

large chunk that I left out, day time/louder rock, folks, and various math and punk. I’ll post some at BF. Or make a small mix for MdM if somebody wants those.

Still not sure what this SXSW malarkey is all about, but from the way you people go on about it, it sounds like a truly, utterly miserable chore, a corporate cocksucking exercise that should be avoided at all costs. I see the initials SXSW and already I am deleting the RSS feed. Truly, fuck those cunts. Listen to music you want to listen to. Don’t listen to music in case you’re missing “a trend”. It’s all garbage. The real stuff emerges regardless.

well, it is a Festival. And SXSW is where a lot of new label and starting artists meet and show their work. Most of these labels and bands are small and don’t have a chance to get on the magazine, radio or TV, but at the same time some are noteable. What’s more all of them are showing up in Austin and begin playing near each other so one can watch and listen to a lot of band at once.

Trend or what not. Probably what I want is finding somebody who has interesting works. Have to search and look around right? Explore and try to find those interesting musicians and their work.

It’s another venue to look around.

  4. Calm down… there’s no need to get all hung up and aggressive about these things… SXSW is a great way to get to know new music, and to give a chance to those small bands that would of otherwise never had a chance to get a venue. I hear it’s a great festival.. all about music! nothing else!

No need to get all aggressive, take it easy friend, we’re all on the same side here :D

i find it interesting to have a little insight into the squashed process for the listening to and making of mixes. : )

  7. squashed says:

Yes. It’s a very delicate process, involving secret intellectual property.

(actually, it’s clicking downloaded files randomly and then start cursing…I spend 5 minutes downloading this POS? But that doesn’t inspire awe too much. :D )

  8. JAJAJA!! I do the same thing Squashed… I can understand what enourmous strain and pressure you must be under :P

  9. Pedro says:

    X-Wife are a very nice portuguese band…

The song makes its imprint
in the air, making itself felt,
a felt world. Here, there,
the stunned silence

of knowing I will not remember
what I heard;

futures that will never happen,
a fluidity we cannot achieve
except as a child
creating possibility.

This is the untranslatable song
hidden in the earth.
