Great one. I love both the image and the tracks.

  2. Fio Abril says:

No, really thanx. I’m going to cambodja in summer so it’s nice to find some glocal music in advance.

  3. Moka says:

    可爱歌曲 :)

“Cry loving me” is actually a cover of Proud Mary from Creedence, I love this version even better than the original. thank you so much for these ones sarkailli.

  4. squashed says:

The rythm layers and harmony are strange, it’s the rocking and the blues. The language strangely fit well tho’.

  5. Bubbachups says:

Haha, this is great! Strangely appealing, this is like Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown in Asia or something.

  6. squashed says:

Definitely soundtrack for next Indiana Jones movie. some of those tracks give me the urge to play ska or at least Mekon.

also…, nobody “scream” in those songs, kinda strange. most of those songs are performed at the top of singer lungs instead of small room/lounge act.

  7. moka says:

Hahaha I can easily imagine some of this songs fitting perfect in the whole ‘kill bill’ context prolly if tarantino is reading he’s gonna steal them for vol. 3 and never give credit.

Speaking of which have you heard the “death proof” soundtrack? There’s some great songs in there, namely ‘chick habit’ by april march, ‘riot in thunder alley’ by eddie beram and ‘down in mexico’ by the coasters. I’ve always considered his soundtrack selections far superior than his movies, after all surf rock would have never had a revival if it wasnt for pulp fiction. Lord knows I’m not saying anything of any note whatsoever.

Yet again i have to thank you ss this are very fun selections.

  8. fk says:

this is very fine pop and rare to find! for that i am grateful saisai

  9. great stuff, but how could omit ‘sweet sixteen’ by ros sereysothea? it’s the finest song by the finest cambodian singer, and even the wonderful dengue fever cover doesn’t come close to the original.

  10. saisai says:

    thanks to you all.
可爱歌曲, yes they are! and moka you’re so 可爱 that you wrote this chinese word here. :)
librariansean, sorry for missing sweet sixteen! if only i could find that song i definitely will put it up here. currently i only have ‘cambodian rock vol 1′. i’m doing some collecting jobs these days. so maybe when i find more interesting stuffs i’ll put up more.

I’m also working on another page for the 2nd lady of Khmer music, Paen Ron, which is linked to my Ros site.

  15. Sandjo says:

saisai or anybody , do you know how i might get more tracks from hu min-hong. not knowing chinese i can’t find any information neither on the author nor on her songs. please help me.

  16. mch says:

胡美紅 (I have her romanized in Mandarin Chinese as Hu Mei-hong, but she is Taiwanese and sings in Taiwanese) has at least four collections released on Asia Records (Kaohsiung, Taiwan). I am trying to find out a bit more about her history as well, since she has been one of my favorite Taiwanese oldies singers for some time. She was signed with Haishan Records since at least 1969. I have a photo of a record of hers here: http://pics.livejournal.com/woquinoncoin/pic/000d0c61

There is a “Hu Mei-hong Dance Troupe” based in Yunlin, Taiwan. I wonder if she retired from singing and started a dance troupe, or if this is another Hu Mei-hong?

The song makes its imprint
in the air, making itself felt,
a felt world. Here, there,
the stunned silence

of knowing I will not remember
what I heard;

futures that will never happen,
a fluidity we cannot achieve
except as a child
creating possibility.
