Note: Generic Indie Rock list. Of course then the question becomes what exactly is Indie and Indie rock. And what constitute generic. As a joke this list suppose to answer that question as “well, just gimme the best thing you got”. So here it is. This is IMO approximate the leading edge currently Indie rock has to offer. As oppose to recent rush to revive every 90′s band. (Smashing Pumpkins) These songs represent major leap fordward in term of rythms, equipments, recording techniques, general composition and musicianship. They are “edgy“, if not crazy loud. They push the envelope. Enjoy.

mmm i wasnt into nirvana during my junior years but one of my roomates was and she told me to tell you she’s very happy for that “rape me” cover.
This list is draining, takes a lot of effort to get it right. But satisfying.
Nirvana is great, they really knows how to play.
I am trying to find indie rock with extremely large sound, super fast, relaly complicated rythm, and not contrained by traditional mode structure.
I am not sure modal/jazz thing is going to be popular because they are pretty rough on ear. But they are so hard to execute and when done right (eg. Anthony Braxton) it just gives incredible space for player to run around in …
I don’t like metal because they are absolutely retarded. It’s just some simple thing being played really loud over and over again. It doesn’t even make interesting minimalist drone.
Like Minutement yet? lol. They are incredible really. But they are small and was from the early days of indie record. Their recording techniques just doesn’t capture their sound.
hey it’s a very nice list, especially it’s a great feeling to see Pere Ubu’S Caroleen, i thought that i’m the only one listening to Why I Hate Women!
Yeah his sound is timeless, his work makes Saties for the late 2000. Oddly calming background fill. Maybe it’s just me. Tho his last album admitedly doesn’t move faraway from his 70′s sound.
