BECAUSE we must take over the means of production in order to create our own moanings.
BECAUSE viewing our work as being connected to our girlfriends-politics-real lives is essential if we are gonna figure out how we are doing impacts, reflects, perpetuates, or DISRUPTS the status quo.
<...>
BECAUSE I believe with my wholeheartmindbody that girls constitute a revolutionary soul force that can, and will change the world for real.

note: One punk rock movement that is often overlooked because of recording business dynamic is the riot grrrl movement in the 90’s. At its core, the movement seeks to provide a space for itself against mono culture and hyper masculine prevailing hardcore genre that alieniate women, either by the music content itself or resulting performance scene. Because the business is so dominated by one culture, the riot grrrl movement has to create everything from scratch. Riding on new generation of far more educated, young and pragmatic feminists, People such as Kathleen Hanna and Alison Wolfe created entire infrastructure for the movement. The thinking, the organisations, the message, performance structure, music message, promos and relationship with larger scene. It is the ultimate do-it-yourself music. The visible aspect of the movement started in the early 90’s and by early 00’s, one can say the intended goal had been achieved. The movement puts a lot of women band in public awareness. [1]
About the list. With some of my favorite songs. tho’ I am a bit ambivalent about the ending. But I suppose I like things with melancholic slant. This is the first entry for mini ‘Indie Carnival‘. A summer project to examine indie rock and the blog.

Hi squashed ,
Such a great post! I love your(motel de moka) idea on making and presenting a lot of underrated music. This is something like silk, blue, wet! I dunno…
yeah a lot of riotgrrrl bands are truely underated because they consciously seek independence and staying away from 90’s record company scene.
Had the blog scene existed back then, they would be the biggest thing that happens since they rely on every do it yourself trick.
I think in the list itself I include some of my favorite common mis conception that a) girls can’t do serious blues and b) girls can’t do hardcore. Consciously or not, that was the big challange in term of music.
but I am thinking to do a little bit more on this type of list. It’s really fun to do. Reading and digging. Tho’ it’s very time consuming compared to regular list. I am trying to find a) “sound” b) if mp3 blogging has any use beyond latest blurb. Can it be used to shape sound and idea and make connections.
Plus it’s summer.
