Dreamhost is slowing to a crawl. About this list: there is something about seeing ugly music list (here) It bugs me to no end. 20 millions users purchase and all we got is badly made mix and pre-fab pop? So I am making several danceable summer lists. This one is a straight forward texture contrast, with several recent favs. Including same dark drone that I can’t resist adding (Jesu). Random idea, how to make hard marble looks like flesh. It was a challange in 15th century sculpture. Stealing the idea, how to make incredibally unflexible up tempo rock beat and make it gracefull. Or make IDM danceable despite note having steady pattern rythm. etc. I also want to include smooth minimalism in contrast with ornate math rock.. It’s a little chaotic, experimental and somewhat too dark for fun dance list. But maybe after my third try it’ll be some odd but useable summer dance list. Also people: can we stop handing out money to big bad labels and their incredibally unlistenable music? Be a snob and buy rare and delicious indie! It’s sexy. Less fat, more head bopping fun. (I think that slogan also needs little work. heh.)

I was going to put more annoying picture, but too lazy to search. Maybe I’ll put japanese bondage on next list or something.

Hmm, delicious sculpture!
Kettel is actually from my hometown, I’m so biased but I really like this track. I am not particularly fond of the new Battles album though, I think it’s quite bad actually. :-)
I thought battle’s album is okay. A little weird for a rock but refreshing. Like TV on radio with drum.
I don’t know what kettel sounds like in live. But their albums are excellent. I love it.
btw, I should tag the image properly.
That one is a sculpture by Henri Joseph Rutxhiel “Zéphyr et Psyché”

>> Favorite New Songs of the Past Year
Tyondai: A song that I like is off the Il Casanova soundtrack that Nino Rota for that Fellini movie by the same title, and the opening track, it’s called “O Venezia, Venaga, Venusia”.
Dave: The one song that’s totally killed me this past year is Terrestrial Tones’ “The Sailor”, on their Dead Drunk album. It’s a fuckin’ dope song. It’s really good. It’s creepy, and it’s just got a really beautiful pulse. I don’t even know what else to say about it, they just pulled off so many good things in this one song. Amazing. Love that song.
John: It’s from a compilation album, but I can get away with it because it comes across as one track on my iPod. It’s Michael Mayer’s Immer 2. It’s just a compilation that he put out maybe four or five months ago. It’s just a really good Kompakt mix CD. I’m really into it.
Ian: I like the Congotronics 2 compilation that just came out this year. The second track is “Koyile/Nyeka Nyeka” featuring the Kasai Allstars.
Saw The Battles in concert on Monday night in Miami. Absolutely epic.
