Ambiguous Sign: Choose For Yourself

One picture, two EP-length, Lambchop-inspired playlists. What is he trying to say? You decide which one you think fits best.

“I’m a Moody Fucker”
Obviously the f-word is what captures the eye initially. It reminded me of the excellent Moody Fucker song by Lambchop and the guy in the picture certainly looks a bit grumpy. This is the more pessimistic list that only looks at the message that he is trying to express.

  1. Lambchop - Moody Fucker
Tools In The Dryer (Merge, 2001)
  2. Eels - It’s A Motherfucker
Daisies Of The Galaxy (DreamWorks, 2000)
  3. Martha Wainwright - Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole
    Martha Wainwright (Zoë, 2005)
  4. Bobby Bare Jr - Bashful Burnt
From the End of Your Leash (Bloodshot, 2004)
  5. Jolie Holland - Do You?
    Escondida (Anti, 2004)

“Your Fucking Sunny Day”
But then again, he did take the trouble to make his sign look colorful and positive. And the picture certainly made me laugh. So a list of easy, feel-good indie music might be appropriate too. This list is dedicated to the cheerful girl who is giving the peace sign.

  1. Lambchop - Your Fucking Sunny Day
    Thriller (Merge, 1997)
  2. The Olivia Tremor Control - Hideway
    Black Foliage (Flydaddy, 1999)
  3. Animal Collective - Who Could Win A Rabbit
    Sung Tongs (FatCat, 2004)
  4. Annemarie - Apple (Suicide On Your Stereo Set)
ABC On TV (Music Is My Girlfriend, 2007)
  5. The Lucksmiths - After The After Party
A Little Distraction (Matinée Recordings, 2003)

hilarious. very clever and maladjusted list. Something about Jolie Holland later work tho’ very moody and tending toward whiny. (to me at least) her earlier album is much tighter rythm wise.

    Thanks. :)

Jolie Holland, I kind of lost track of her after Escondida. I remember seeing her for the first time with this video. I was instantly hooked. Coincidentally, on that same show Bobby Bare Jr. also performed a song, here is a video of that bit.

And for all of those Sufjan Stevens fans out there, he also did a song for that show which you can see here.

Haha, that is so great, thanks a bunch for those pictures Nicholas. I love the sign even more when it’s folded out, even though his message seems not so ambiguous anymore. :)

Kudos to this man for telling the truth in such a colorful way.
