Hysterical Lace, Transfiguration, Dream and Me

Objects are given to us by means of sensibility, and it alone yields us intuitions; they are thought through the understanding, and from the understanding arise concepts. But all thought must, directly or indirectly, by way of certain characters relate ultimately to intuitions, and therefore, with us, to sensibility, because in no other way can an object be given to us. – Critique of Pure Reason (pp.65)

Note: Last of the dream series. This is an odd list containing even stranger works. I have to say I like all songs in it. They are after all suppose to be soundtrack inside my head. The list itself is a little frankenstein-esque, with two half baked ideas stiched together. Originally a simple parade of songs with mode changes then bunch of electronic and avant-garde additions completely change the whole direction mid way. I suppose it still gets the job done, painting the moment of transformation when certainty turns into something other than that. Almost frighteningly sinister. Eg. The precise function of popular songs as carrier of ideas, metaphor and direct meaning, odd modes, transitions, different tonality, different languages, etc. I am not sure if this list is that practical. There is no abrupt volume change, but the tones are very strange in some section, not to mention the subject matter. People are definitely going to put out funny look. so .. be warned. K. Have fun.

    Nice one! The Thurston Moore track is pretty cool.

    It’s from his upcoming, September release album. I like some songs in the album, overall it’s a little too neurotic. Like Naked City album but Sonic Youth style. (I don’t know why I am saying this. I suppose I was looking for music in this area lately)

    It seems the downloadable Múm mp3 like is broken. the streaming version is up, though. I’d love to download it…

  4. squashed says:

    hmmm. let me check. I don’t know what happens, because streaming should be the same as download. hold on. this might take awhile since I have to re upload.

    update: okay. should be fixed. It’s the funny character doesn’t get recognized correctly.

The song makes its imprint
in the air, making itself felt,
a felt world. Here, there,
the stunned silence

of knowing I will not remember
what I heard;

futures that will never happen,
a fluidity we cannot achieve
except as a child
creating possibility.
