yeah Four Tet and Venetian Snares have several works that are influenced by jazz. A lot of DnB albums, the great one at least, have nifty jazz like rhythm. That's why I put Photek in the list, kinda wondering if he swiped some ideas from jazz. .. well I suppose I can try to find interviews or mailing list conversation.

I had the "m'boom" album. Thats a great bedroom rocker, I used it a couple of times in the past and it works quite well.

Also think about the Max Roach heavy influence on Venetian Snares and Four Tet, I love your tribute sq.

I watched a great video of Max Roach working with kids and explaining how the drum set worked. He said "the drum-set is a uniquely American innovation..." and proceeded to wow everyone with his talent but made the concepts very accessible.

Quickie, this is a bebop-IDM list. A full blast list on rhythm. The first track is from Four Tet first release, it's a half hour track. A mesmerizing repetition of a theme from free jazz sound sample. I thought the somber yet expressive sound is appropriate for the occasion.

Other breakcore/DNB on the list is Venetian Snares and Photek.

Track number 7 is from max Roach famous album "WE INSIST"!

All of these albums are worth owning. Very interesting sonic.... (tho' you gonna need to rob a bank sooner or later if you are going to buy all suggested albums. but really, they are nifty.)

He grew up in a musical home, his mother being a gospel singer. He started to play bugle in parade orchestras at a young age. At the age of 10, he was already playing drums in some gospel bands. As an eighteen year-old fresh out of Boys' High School, Brooklyn, NY,(1942) he was called to deputize for Sonny Greer, and play with the Duke Ellington Orchestra performing at the NY Paramount Theatre.

In 1942, Roach started to go out in the jazz clubs of the 52nd Street and at 78th Street & Broadway for Georgie Jay's Taproom (playing with schoolmate Cecil Payne). He was one of the first drummers (along with Kenny Clarke) to play in the bebop style, and performed in bands led by Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Bud Powell, and Miles Davis.

Roach played on many of Parker's most important records, including the Savoy 1945 session, a turning point in recorded jazz.
