Getting away from the nineties post modernism to something genuinely modernist is very difficult to do; going into the unknown is harder than going into things that are tried and tested methods and in a way, a lot of today’s music is perfect versions of past formulas. It’s quite easy to perfect that past formula because you see all the mistakes, but when you are trying to go forward, there’s no mistakes to lean from there’s not anything, you are just bumbling around in the dark. So I think our attitude has changed massively, from trying to get these perfect sounds and perfect sonics and getting it all to work, to just working with who we were and making a noise and accepting our inadequacies as programmers, producers, songwriters, performers, players. -hkclubbing
note: A simple list that gets complicated as soon as a song hit my rule of not posting major labels. Interestingly the list grew and gaining voice. Originally it’s a simple electroclash list, but after tweaking it becomes 3 part list looking at electro pop, political lyrics and hip-hop. I also resolve my dislike with certain simple repetitive beat often used in this genre. (eg. I can’t stand Blondie’s harder songs beats. It has no depth whatsoever.) My solution: pick song with variation, faster and denser texture. Ladytron and The Faint is a nice example of fun electro pop. Also: let me assure you I will never post New Order. Never! (it’s the sound of major label) I might however post goth with electro thumping sometimes.
