01. American Analog Set - Hard to Find
Promise of Love (Tiger Style, 2003)
02. The Coral - Fireflies
Roots & Echoes (Deltasonic / Sbme, 2007)
03. Castledoor - Fall Apart (myspace)
(From Live set?) (Castledoor, 2007)
04. The Blood Brothers - Peacock Skeleton With Crooked Feathers
Crimes (2004)
05. American Music Club - Another Morning
Love Songs For Patriots (Merge Records, 2004)

Note: EZ pop list. My impression of what London sounds like in mellow night tone. I am sure it’s completely wrong. But you can’t complain unless you are Londoner. Ever wonder where one gets the impression how a city supposes to sound? I always get it wrong with big city, except Memphis. I always imagine London in Clash/Rolling Stones, square-ish electro or britpop. But we got Amy Winehouse instead. Same with Berlin, never in a million year I imagine the dominant sound is punk/industrial with bad drummer or very square-ish techno. I always imagine Berlin in Lou Reed/NY downtown tone. You know, 70’s bohemians. In my romantisized deep south, everybody listens to delta blues instead of bland radio list dished out by Clear Channel robo DJ somewhere in Dallas. Billboard top 40 from last month. Memphis is the only town I can say…oh jeess, not Elvis/ AM rock again… or is that London.

Well, whatever. Check out the list above. Castledoor is from CA, only have one EP out, but I like the big melody. Recording is a little blurry since it’s DIY release. Enjoy.

This isn’t the sound of London (goddammit, none of them are even English).

    London sounds like:

Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up Look Sharp
    Underworld - Born Slippy
The Jam - Down In The Tube Station At Midnight
    Burial - Night Bus
    Paul Weller - That’s Entertainment
David Homles - Coming Home to the sun

I love your suggestions, ctel, yet I’ve been to London and I have to disagree with you, the urban soundscapes in there are way too diverse and globalized to even try to categorize and I think squashed’s idea of the sound of London is as valid as yours.

I could even suggest a playlist entirely based on reggae and latin cumbia and it would still be a honest portrait of London.

see, the trick is to find that “mood” using various genre. That’s what I was trying to do. Of course using UK bands would be much better. But I didn’t have time to do it right last night.

btw. I hate effing two steps and some garage. I thought they are a bit too shallow. There isn’t enough complexity to enjoy it after opening lick. (no….I don’t plan to listen more of them)

I’ll do another one, if there is enough suggestion …

come on Londoner, say something. Don’t make me post Spice girls.

The Oxford Union Society isn’t based in London, it’s based in - surprise! - Oxford.

Curvature of spacetime can be deformed. give me enough mass and energy I’ll put oxford right on top of Westminster Abbey …:P

having said that. I wonder what takes people so long pointing out how odd that little quote next to the title. hmm. It doesn’t make sense. I should never post late at night.
