sammyfax: Betty Davis is amazing, definitely recommend to take a deep listen to her output. Lucky for you her discography is pretty much comprised of only 3 studio albums :)

james: well, don't you keep quiet around here, please. If there's something that doesnt quite appease to you about any of my playlists please let me know as well, constructive criticism also helps me. Glad to know you enjoyed this one!

Hoovey, radders, aurele: thank you, I'll try to do another one soon, but to be honest I pretty much exposed the heavy artillery of my collection in this single post.

sq: yeah, was thinking about that when compiling this one, many of the classic funk/soul from the 70's is on the big labels.
Not that there isn't any funk or soul on the indie side, quite contrary there's so much out there that it's a wearisome experience to try and dip in to it all of the sudden, I seriously need some guidance. Most of what I hear sounds either too soft or too raunchy, and not in the good way.

The thing about doing classic funk/soul list. Almost all of the well known ones are owned by major labels. And it takes time to find those that is still released by indie labels. Plus, we are not that knowledgeable in the genre, so ... yadda yadda.. It takes slightly longer to figure a nice list...

this as oppose to downtempo or folks, which is MdM main material. That's why the list quality in those genres feels a lot more satisfying even the short one.

of course any tip from funk gurus out there are definitely welcome... :D
