note: Having a little fun. Ever wonder if time ever changes, if we live in different time? I was wondering about that after mixing this list. I don’t think the set can work ten years go. It won’t sound right. not like now at least. Not only folktronica didn’t exist back then, since computing power is beyond the reach of average folks artists. But the idea hip-hop techniques can creep into folks and hip-hop street root of funk beat is now consider classic, is simply unimaginable. People will give you the look. But now it’s jsut another random playlist. Anyway, here is two layer list, current folktronica meshed with late 90′s slower east coast rap. It sounded like a soundtrack of some art gallery somewhere in Brooklyn or maybe Paris. Lazy weekend lounge with strong melody over head nooding beat. Cheers.

PS. where did Moka go?

    interesting group of songs, sir (or mam)! whilst driving down the highway after putting this list on a travel cd, digable planets came on with “that” song above. i’m not a fan of hip hop, but there were some transcendent parts in that song. i wonder if anyone bothered to remix out the oddities. if anyone knows, please post.

    cocorosie sounds like johanna newsom moved to france…unless the group is made-up, or maybe just the lead singer is in love with johanna. an unusual listening experience anyhoo.

    and finally, i’m sure yegelle tezeta goes on a bit longer and doesn’t fade out? i love that series…so cool the sort of funky jazz superimposed on the repeated ethopic patterns (or the other way around, whatever). that music would also be way-cool if it was redone with other instruments. the saxophone is always slightly irritating to my ear.

    great work!

    “Sightly Sue” — and Cooley-Munson — was the discovery for me in this mix. What an odd hazy seaside groove.

The song makes its imprint
in the air, making itself felt,
a felt world. Here, there,
the stunned silence

of knowing I will not remember
what I heard;

futures that will never happen,
a fluidity we cannot achieve
except as a child
creating possibility.

This is the untranslatable song
hidden in the earth.
