The radio aches a little tune that tells the story of what the night
is thinking. It’s thinking of love.
It’s thinking of stabbing us to death
and leaving our bodies in a dumpster.
That’s a nice touch, stains in the night, whiskey and kisses for everyone.

With this playlist I was supposed to fill a request for a friend who asked me to give him one for the road. After several sketches, tho, the original idea started falling apart as my recent trip to Mexico city started claiming a strong influence on my listening habits. Whenever I thought of the word ‘highway’, millions of blurring lights appeared never waiting for a fox to cross. As hard as I tried the memory of driving peacefully through the countryside watching stoical cows and rising suns had dissapeared. Instead I found skyscrapers through chunks of aquamarine sky into millions of anonymous faces. I would look through the window at the night taking shape. Waiting for more.

And so, in the end I came up with this, it might not be the best companion for the highway but I believe it has some interesting contrast and flow to it and it makes for a perfect nocturnal listen in small rooms on big cities.

This playlist would be perfect as the soundtrack of “lost in translation”. (oh!…)
Yes, listening to each song I see an highway, but two people in the car. Except for the one by Trente moeller: in this case i see the streeets of a big town and the people all around.

Bad picture in my opition. The best thing is the contrast between the electrical colours of the phony biuldings and the monument to a persone who lives in a very remote past.

things only go the way you planned if you didn’t have a plan in the first place. doesn’t matter cuz the list turned out anyway. ;)
it is like being in the car. with all this shit happening outside, but the windows are shut, and you feel separate from everything. i like the intimacy.

Speaking about the previous image, perhaps you’ll like this info.

In a eqeustrian monument, if the horse has a leg lifted (pulled off?) from the ground it means that the man the monument wants to recall had serious wounds on the fighting ground; if the horse had both the two front legs lifted it means that the famous man died.
A king, usually stays on a horse that holds his hoofson the ground.

    hello Moka

overnight made me get the album from whence it came, and it is an excellent collection of piano instrumentals. thanks for that. can you recommend any similar releases? i like solo piano music.

    Heya brandon,

it’s a little hard recommending something without knowing what you like from that song. Or what feel you are looking for. But the base feel, with similar texture and speed. you might want to check these:

Waltz for Debby - Bill Evans (or any of Bill Evans work)
Debussy: Piano Works - Alexis Weissenberg
Claude Debussy: Préludes, Vol. 1; Images - Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli
Chopin: Piano Sonata No.2; Ravel: Gaspard De La Nuit; Prokoviev: Piano Sonata no. 6 - Pogorelich

this one is cheap, you got a good performer. recording is slightly older.

If you are looking for that thick atmospheric mood, basically you are looking for early modern, late impressionism sound. (piano work such as satie, debussy, ravel, cool jazz)

if you look for prepared piano/electronic sampling. It’s a bit harder. I love Aphex Twin’s Drukqs.
