Life in Marvelous Times

A single sneeze propels 100,000 droplets into the air at around 90 mph, landing on door knobs, ATM keypads, elevator buttons, escalator railings, and grocery cart handles. In a subway station at rush hour, according to British researchers, as many as 10 percent of all commuters can come in contact with the spray and residue from just one sneeze (or sternutation). That means as many as 150 commuters can be sickened by one uncovered achoo.

These days have been both the most crazy and boring days of my life. Going outdoors has become a surreal and overall depressing activity, what with everybody engaging in some sort of game of social distancing and giving nasty glares at people who are not wearing their masks. I miss human contact. People without fear nor distrust in their eyes. All I ever see these days are the sick and the robots.

poke.hey……. lol
takes a lot of pictures. you’ll laugh 50 yrs from now.
Moka,
sorry about the craziness, boredom & social distancing.
Wasn’t Four Tet supposed to be there yesterday, or was that cancelled?
In any case, thinking of you.
Stay well,
Julian

Jajaja. Yo al mio le dibuje una nariz de cerdo :)
Heya sq! it seems people today were finally starting to cool down so lets hope this weekend is not as inocuos as the last one. :)
If you’re reading, thanks for the email, Julian!
p.s.- there have only been 256 documented cases of swine flu.
In contrast, over 1,000,000 people died between April and July in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, which was given almost no press coverage at all.
KO: I agree that the media has given way too much attention to the swine flu, in the meantime this smoke curtain has allowed the Mexican senate to aprove a number of laws that they could’ve otherwise found a certain opposition.
Perhaps I’m awfully wrong but empirically speaking I think the international media is mostly interested on issues that propose a threat to the nation. Something that could affect their economies and their citizens.
Genocides in the third world aren’t communicable to other countries and do not present a direct economical threat to the first world, therefore they are more likely to be ignored and silenced. If the Rwandan genocide had been covered in its time as much as the swine flu has, the resulting public outrage would require an act of coercion from the first world countries, and I guess cross-politics are a heavy annoyance to governments in the first world, specially when there’s no opportunity of big money involved.
In the particular case of the Rwandan genocide, France was supporting the Hutus, so you can tell they were pretty concerned about keeping things as quiet as possible and for unknown reasons the United States government was also constantly impairing public awareness and took no overt action at the beginning of the genocide, even when they were fully aware of what was happening and knew exactly who was leading the genocide. They even lobbied the UN for a withdrawal of all their troops from Rwanda.
I’ve been looking for the shuggie-otis-song for quite a while, not knowing who it was – thank you so much! Taht makes my weekend!
Ohhhuuuu… what a great playlist… a great mix.
You choosed a perfect image too…
“The Sour” plays in my deep inside. Few notes can make a struggling mood. Electonics insertions to wake you up with a slap, just to let you fall asleep again…
I want to explore Peder’s production.
You missed human contact, I missed your presence here in the motel.
Take care,
Ciao :)
word @ your rwanda speech, and big up for that playlist. keep up the good work.
Hi MdM people
I’ve been following your blog for ages now and I’d like to pass on the Kreativ Blogger award – it’s a little daft thing passed on to me but if you’d like to accept it, please head to the Award Tour II post on my blog to download the graphic. I think you comps are always class and you’ve got a real feel for atmosphere and texture – something missing from so many other music blogs.
Keep it up, SP
