Castro appreciates the tastes of young people in Brazil in the late ’40s, when the children of bossa nova were growing up. Frank Sinatra is indeed the subject of several jibes along the course of this story. Some of the founders of bossa nova, oddly enough, were members of Rio’s “Sinatra-Farney Fan Club,” born in 1949. Membership required a fanatical zeal for Frank Sinatra and Dick Farney, monetary dues, and the ability (at least in a relative sense) to play an instrument or sing. To these young people, Sinatra’s only flaw was that he was not Brazilian. Parenthetically, Castro remarks:

Those who are less than a hundred years old might not believe it, but Frank Sinatra was a sex symbol in those days. He was also so thin that when he walked around on stage with the microphone in his hand—he was one of the first singers to do this—he had to be careful not to disappear behind the cord. - History of Bossa Nova

Note: One of MdM favorite rhythm. We hope you like the mix, somewhere between original Bossa, a dab of samba, and plenty of modern mix cribbing Bossa. Perhaps its representative of what we like to do. Mix things to reach that mysterious center of music. The soul.

more side note about the mix. I think I was trying to create a “crisp” mix. That incredible phrasing of melody and lyrics that only bossa can brings out. It’s always grand. It always sway grandly on its own term. Never scream or straining. The songs are sometimes no more than whispery words but they are so memorable.

well. hope you enjoy this. It should work as a lunch list.

I really think we should just do simple paypal link and manually announce. a lot simpler and safer.

    btw, how is your grandad?

have you try this? (it’s wordpress that strip out code)

    http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/paypal-donate-really-easy-guide

    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donate-intro-outside

also, I think wordpress “strip out” any java. see what is the code that is generated by paypal. try putting it in the sidebar, under that chatbox (sidebar doesn’t strip java/code)

otherwise, just put widget … lol. You like adding widget.

Phew! At last! Thanks for the link squashed. My settings on paypal were automatically set on Spanish and I couldn’t find the link because the translation from english to spanish is quite messy.

Alright I’ll keep updated every 8 hours or so on our progress. Or is 8 hours too much time? In case we reach the 200 before time I’ll leave a message and remove the donate links.

I can afford $15, you guys have been great!

  14. squashed said, July 19, 2009 @ 1:53 pm

    heya guys.

first off, thank you for the donations.
But I don’t know what’s the status. I think Moka has to go to the hospital. So things will be a bit slow. At any rate. I think we have about enough. So if you think to have bigger than $20 donation. better hold it. Because probably we have to return the money or use it for next year.

If the collection go over by a little bit. Maybe we will have one or two of those little contest. (CD and such.)

but at any rate. thank you and wait a little until moka gets to her account to sort thing out. (yeah, this year fund raising is a bit messy.) :D

    have a great weekend.

ps. I am trying to make another post.
