Top 200 Tracks of the 2000’s

The demands of everyday life can often bog you down and keep you from doing things that you really desire in your heart to do. I can’t really explain why it took me so long to get started but after months of procrastination I’m very happy to announce that our favorite 200 tracks of the decade are finally here! Yeahy!

Just before we start, there are a couple of points that I would to clarify:

  • The trick is always showing your favorite, and never, necessarily, your best.
  • The songs are not ranked. Instead, they have been arranged in a very comfortable playlist format. If you been visiting us for a while you already know how the drill goes.
  • Although I will appear as the author of the series the set is a collective effort by the MdM staff.
  • I couldn’t doublecheck every song on the list, so should you find any error please let us know so we can fix it as soon as possible.

I will be updating the entries over here as soon as they’re published, in case you wish to bookmark this post. There’s 20 songs per post and since the last thing we want is to oversaturate our server’s load and our dear reader’s minds, the whole project will be published in a span of 3 or 4 weeks. Let them sink in and remember to support the artists you enjoy. Now let’s get it on!

    It’s never easy to map out an entire decade in music. So, in constructing the “Decade in Music” interactive timeline, we sought to shape it with some of the bigger tent-pole trends, news (Elton John performing with Eminem) and groundbreaking changes in the industry, business and technology (Napster, the iPod). We also wanted to highlight albums (Britney Spears, Danger Mouse, Radiohead) that took a snapshot of the era, as well as deaths (Ray Charles, Johnny Cash) that affected everyone. And, of course, we wanted to include the occasional “wardrobe malfunction” controversy or bizarre curiosity (”Trapped in the Closet”) that simply served as a funny bit to remember.

    The 2000s saw the revival and influence of New Wave music, post-punk, and synthpop music, as there is an increase in interest in both technology and 1980s music. This revival is sometimes known as new urban pop. Popularised in the UK in the early to mid 2000s, artists include Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The Bravery, Bloc Party,with bands such as Metro Station, The Veronicas, Lights, The Postal Service, Hellogoodbye, Owl City, and MGMT becoming popular toward the end of the decade as nu metal and similar modern rock loses popularity. Along with Post-Punk revival, Garage rock also sees a revival. Australian Indie Rock band Jet and British Indie Rock bands like The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, The Hives, The Vines, Radiohead, Muse as well as similar American groups The Strokes, Kings of Leon, The White Stripes and Interpol see success. Indie music itself becomes popular due to the increased commercialization of alternative.

    She walks in beauty, like the night
    Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
    And all that’s best of dark and bright
    Meet in her…
