This is pure Moka but with tracks from albums that I like. Bossa and early IDM, little soul. It's not the genre style, but how the combination flow that should give you a hint.

Moka likes more sustained melody over longer period of time, her preference of harmony also distinct. I can do it sometimes, but I have to imagine very weird movie to make it happen... lol. My flow is much more unstable comparatively. Genre mix is interchangable, we all know and can precisely emulate others blend.

If you can create exact same mood using 5 different genres coherently, then you pretty much figure out what MdM is doing. Easiest way is just simply sing the main melody in your head. You can do exactly what's going on in here. The basic is not terribly exotic.

The reason and what drive, the personalities can't be emulated. The soul. The interplay and combination of those what makes MdM chug along. ... if there is a post that is...haa haa.

jimbo: Thanks for the heads up! Fixed now.

David: Very true. I was thinking of posting something more akin to their base sound... maybe the track 'Chantez-chantez' (I adore that one) or something off of 'Dimanche a Bamako', but I don't know... I feel like Sabali pushes the envelope without sacrificing an ounce of the usual joy of living that they project with their music.

"Sabali" is quite fun but misleading. It sounds nothing like Amadou & Mariam or even for that matter. "Snow Samba" is touchingly sweet.
