There are many people who have spent their entire lives studying music and still they would be surprised to find out that there is more to it than what meets the eye. Music has a huge influence on our culture, our daily lives, as well as how we see the world. New data at Bonza Spins shows that adding certain sounds, like coins dropping or a ringing bell, can make gambling more appealing and winning more memorable.

However, it does not mean that every musical thing about it is normal or predictable. There are some things about music which will always surprise you with its unusualness. So here we are listing down 5 such facts for you.

The Music Facts Will Blow Your Mind

Music has been scientifically proven to have many benefits for our mental health. The most recent research revealed that it reduces anxiety levels in people with dementia. It’s also a key component of what we call “earworms” or songs that repeat over and over again in our heads. These tunes can be either good or bad, but one thing is certain: earworms are powerful. This article will give you five of the coolest music facts we could find.

Fact 1. Your Favorite Musicians Aren’t Living Long Enough

A study by Sydney’s faculty member surveyed the deaths of composers and other musician artists which happened between 1950 and 2023. The artists’ ages are twenty-five years shorter. What’s even more shocking is that this isn’t just an American trend — it’s a worldwide phenomenon. What’s even more shocking is that this isn’t just an American trend — it’s a worldwide phenomenon.

The idea that musicians die earlier is not a new concept. In fact, it’s been around for decades and has spawned several theories about why this might be the case. The music industry is a notoriously difficult one to survive in. You must be talented, you must be good at what you do, and you must have the perseverance of Job to make it.

This may be due to their propensity for substance abuse, like alcohol and cocaine. They also deal with emotional stress as they try to balance the pressure of fame, finances, and life in general. This is a very controversial topic that has been debated many times over in the past few decades. Some people think musicians live fast lives full of drugs and sex while others believe that all this contributes to depression.

Fact 2. Mozart Beats Beyoncé

Mozart beats Beyoncé in a very interesting way. In 2016, Mozart sold more CDs than Beyoncé. The New Complete Edition presents the most authoritative edition of Mozart’s entire work to date and includes every last fragment found to this day, including unfinished works that have never been heard before.

Fact 3. The Longest Concert in History

The Epidemic Music Group is a Canadian company that organized the world’s longest concert by multiple artists. The event lasted almost 454 hours and was part of Canada’s celebration of the country’s 150th anniversary. This concert is not only an amazing feat but also a historical one as it lasted longer than any other musical performance in history.

Fact 4. Pop Music Helps People Recall Memories

According to a Daily Mail article, the ability of music to evoke memories has been documented in a recent study by Dr Baird and Dr Samson. In their study, they revealed that victims with critical head damage were able to recall memories when listening to light pop music.

The researchers hypothesized that songs might evoke more emotional responses from patients than speech because it is “more aesthetically pleasing” and often has a strong rhythm or beat, which could activate parts of the brain not functioning after injury.

Fact 5. Music Education Boosts Exam Scores

Music education has many benefits for students. The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation reports that musical experience, such as participation in a performance ensemble or taking music courses, give rise to education scores. Averagely, participants score 63% higher on the verbal section and 44% higher on math when they take the exam than those who do not have any musical experience at all.

This is important because these scores are what colleges use to evaluate applicants’ qualifications and intelligence levels. This data may be attributed to improved communication skills, increased spatial intelligence, better problem solving skills as well as enhanced reasoning abilities. These findings are not only encouraging for students who are planning to pursue a career in music but also provides an interesting perspective for new generations.

  • Amplifier: This device boosts the audio signal from the head unit, providing more power to your speakers.
  • Speakers: These convert the amplified audio signal into sound waves that you can hear.
  • Subwoofer: A specialized speaker that reproduces low-frequency sounds, or bass, enhancing the overall audio experience.

3. Choosing the Right Speakers

When selecting speakers, consider these factors:

  • Sensitivity: Higher sensitivity speakers require less power to produce sound, making them ideal for lower-powered systems.
  • Power handling: Choose speakers that can handle your amplifier’s power output, or you risk damaging them.

4. Amplifiers: Powering Your Audio Experience

An amplifier is essential for any serious car audio system. Key considerations when choosing an amplifier include:

  • Power output: Match the amplifier’s power output with your speakers’ power handling capabilities.
  • Number of channels: Choose a multi-channel amplifier to power multiple speakers or a mono amplifier for a subwoofer.

5. Subwoofers: Bring the Bass

Subwoofers add depth

and dimension to your music, enhancing your overall listening experience. Here’s what to look for when selecting a subwoofer:

  • Size: Subwoofers come in various sizes, typically ranging from 8 to 15 inches. Larger subwoofers produce deeper bass, but also require more space and power.
  • Type: You can choose between component subwoofers, which require an external enclosure and amplifier, or powered subwoofers that have a built-in amplifier and enclosure.
  • Enclosure: The type of enclosure affects the subwoofer’s sound. Sealed enclosures provide tight, accurate bass, while ported or vented enclosures produce louder, more resonant bass.

6. Upgrading Your Head Unit

The head unit is the “brain” of your car audio system. When selecting a new head unit, consider these features:

  • Connectivity: Look for options like Bluetooth, USB, and auxiliary inputs for seamless integration with your devices.
  • Compatibility: Make sure the head unit is compatible with your vehicle’s make and model, as well as with your existing audio components.
  • User interface: A user-friendly interface with intuitive controls is essential for easy operation while driving.

Pro Tip: Websites like Autozin provide a wealth of information on various car models, which can help you determine the compatibility of a head unit with your vehicle.

7. Installation Tips and Tricks

While professional installation is recommended for the best results, you can tackle a car audio system upgrade as a DIY project. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Plan ahead: Sketch out your desired system and gather all necessary components and tools before starting.
  • Follow instructions: Adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions for each component to ensure optimal performance and avoid damage.

In the 18th century to replace the splendor and excessiveness of the Baroque came a style in which the main thing becomes naturalness and logic.
The aesthetics of Classicism are based on the cult of reason. The name “classicism” comes from Latin and means “exemplary”.
For artists of this time, ancient culture with its harmony and pursuit of perfection becomes the ideal. In Classicism reason prevails over feelings, the individual is sacrificed in favor of the social.

Composers of that period turned to genres connected with high religious content (tragedy, ode) on the one hand, and on the other hand to secular genres written in “simple” musical language (comedy, piano or vocal (instrumental miniatures) based on the appeal to folk musical folklore.

The brightest representatives of this trend were the three great names called the “Viennese classics”: Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

They represent the foundation of Classicalism as a particular era. They all began their artistic journey in Vienna, which was the capital of European culture. Hence the name “Viennese Classics.”

Haydn and Beethoven gravitated toward instrumental genres (sonata, symphony). Haydn conveys an extraordinary lightness and optimism, cheerfulness and zest for life in his works. Beethoven is a man’s heroic overcoming of his destiny. Mozart is a composer who is equally brilliant in any genre. His favorite genre becomes opera.
Their works have a clear and distinct form with a rich, emotional, harmonically developed content.

During the Classical period such genres as sonata, symphony, concerto were finally formed and became exemplary (classical). The sonata form is considered as figurative, free of excessive bombast, contrasting development, based on the contrast of the main musical themes. The symphonic cycle (four-part form) was finally formed.

Classical music glorifies human activity, his moods and actions.
The works of the “Viennese classics” give us unforgettable emotions that inspire and help us to move forward on the path of life.

The era of Romanticism in music covers roughly the period from 1800 to 1910.
It replaced the era of classicism with a clear and strict position of man in the society around him: man is opposed to the world in which he exists, he fights for his destiny, defends his interests, argues with the existing laws, and survives as he sees fit.

During the Romantic era, composers focus on the man himself with his thoughts, feelings and desires. Man as a person created for this world.

The main theme of composers’ works becomes the theme of love. In any manifestation of this theme is not devoid of autobiography (Schumann and his love for Clara Wieck. Wagner’s opera works).

The second major detail becomes the theme of loneliness. The surrounding world is a world of bourgeoisness, pretense, philistinism, deceit, and danger. But the inner world is beautiful. There you can live and create as you see fit.
It is very typical for romantic composers to address the theme of nature. Against the background of the beautiful and eternal, calm and constant, it is easier to develop the inner world of man, leaning on and enjoying the richness and diversity of the colors that exist around.

During this period of great importance acquires an appeal to folk art, folklore, the saturation of the musical fabric with folk motifs. There were composers for whom folk art became an inexhaustible source of inspiration (Grieg, whose favorite technique was a move – a jump from the 7th step to the 5th: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra).
Finally, the craving for the fantastic, for the mysterious, the tense, the unusual, the mysterious (Weber, the scene of casting bullets from the opera “The Magic Arrow”) is very widespread. This focus leads to an increased role of the orchestra, new harmonic means of expression, the introduction of recitative insertions, the use of new noise effects, and much more.

The most important stage in the era of Romanticism was the idea of the synthesis of the arts, which is most vividly expressed in Wagner’s operas: stage action, music, orchestra, singing, decorations.
The first Romantic composers were Schubert, Weber and Rossini.Later ones were Schumann, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Liszt, Wagner, and Verdi. The next stage was Brahms, Smetana, and Grieg.

The music of the Romantic composers, being the brightest masterpieces of world culture, will forever give joy and pleasure to people.

The Baroque era in music, which replaced the Renaissance, covers a period that began around 1600 and developed until about 1750.
The term “baroque” translates as “a pearl of irregular, fanciful form.” Also as “opulent, exuberant, excessive.”

In music:

a) complication of the melodic line, transition to homophonic presentation, new tonal ratios – quarto-quinto (previously mostly tertian),
b) new genres: fugue (Bach), oratorios (Handel), operas (Monteverdi), concertos (Vivaldi),
c) a new approach to the instrument’s possibilities. The musical fabric is colored by fanciful curves, this trend is especially evident in vocal music (the voice as if “weaving lace”).

One of those who contributed to the development of this style is King Louis 14, by the name of “The Sun. This style – the desire for luxury and splendor, “everything must be too much.

Rococo – a style that emerged in France in the first half of the 18th century as a further development of the Baroque style. The brightest representatives are composers Rameau and Couperin. In translation, the term means “decorative shell, seashell“. In France the Rococo period is called “the time of Cupid and Venus” – “in everything there should be a refinement, including in love“.
The music of this direction is characterized by: diminutiveness of forms, clarity of harmonic sequences, the primacy of melody over harmony, the hypertrophied role of ornamentation.

The main requirement to the music of Rococo was that it delighted the listener’s palate and did not require too much mental commitment.

Baroque and Rococo music, which replaced the Renaissance and preceded the Classical period, gave us such masterpieces of musical art as Bach’s fugues, Handel’s “Alleluia” from his Messiah oratorio and Vivaldi’s “The Seasons“.
Musical ornamentation became more refined, ways of playing instruments evolved, the scope of genres broadened, complex forms (opera) appeared, etc.

A large number of Baroque-era musical terms and concepts remain relevant and viable to this day.

This article is a product of the author’s thoughts on ways to create songs and instrumental compositions, based on personal experience and observations. It is intended mainly for aspiring musicians and music producers who are trying their hand at writing music.

So, you have decided to write music. You’re supposed to have a sequencer program at your disposal (I have Logic Pro X), a midi keyboard, and a set of necessary software for creating electronic music.

The first way

The most simple and natural: the muse comes to you and presents you with an interesting melody or harmonic series. In this case, you can not rely on your memory (they say, I will get to the workplace and record what I heard from above), and immediately sing what came to mind on the recorder, which is available in every smartphone. A tape recorder should be always at hand, even at night, when we are most often visited by the muse, and sometimes insomnia is the cause of the birth of these or those interesting musical compositions.

The second way

Some people like to write on ready-made lyrics. On the one hand, it is very convenient: a rhythmic pattern is given, reading poetry evokes certain images, and the melody gradually forms. But this method has some disadvantages: you are deliberately limited by the framework of the proposed scheme, and often an interesting musical solution does not fit into it. As a result of “fitting” for a ready-made text, you can lose all the originality of the idea.

Third way

The most common among musicians. You sit down at the instrument and play a certain harmonic sequence that corresponds to your plan to create a particular composition. When the sequence is formed, you can accompany it with a percussion rhythm and even a sketchy bassline. Next, you run the recorded sequence in a circle and slowly play the melody that lies on top of the resulting harmonic sequence. Gradually, one way or another, a kind of melody matures that meets your expectation. Here is an example of one of my compositions, Miraculous Mood, written in this way.

The fourth way

Very often, when you try out the sound of a music library, musical images that gravitate specifically to the instrument used emerge by themselves. For example, if you select a track with a classical organ in the Seventor and play some harmonic sequences, you will involuntarily plunge into the atmosphere of the old classical school, and the resulting images will somehow materialize as beautiful classical sequences like Bach or Handel fugues. The sound of a beautiful violin will make you want to play something by Vivaldi, Mozart, or Strauss, or maybe some other classical composer you know. And the flute itself will sing an intricate improvisation that will fit organically into your mix. The same goes for any other instrument – you just have to try it. This method, of course, implies a musical education and knowledge of the works of famous composers.

Fifth method

It is a bit troublesome, but I think it can be quite effective with the right approach. I do not know, whether musicians use it for the creation of the compositions in that sequence which I suggest, but that use in principle – almost certainly.
Imagine if you’re listening to a song, you really like a verse, and before you hear the rest of the song, you start to find a chorus to the verse on your own. If you’re lucky and the chorus comes together, record it on your recorder (or wherever else you like) and set it aside for a day or two so the verse wears off your memory. And then, as you listen to your own chorus, match your own verse to it. Here is a new song or composition, which is not similar to the heard one, except by the rhythmic image and the general mood, though the latter can be changed.

The sixth method

This is the way I use, and it works quite well.
Imagine that you received a songwriting order from one of our (or foreign) stars, and you need to write a song for a very specific artist. Imagine him mentally, singing on stage, listen to his intonations, the manner of singing, and try together with him to perform something that he has not yet sung. That is, hearing the performer with your inner ear, the melody or rhythmic sequence is born by itself. And then everything depends on your ability to use what you hear and apply it to writing a new song.

I may have missed something, and there are many other ways to write music. I hope to make additions to this material as new knowledge in this area becomes available.
I hope that the above tips will help you, dear colleagues, to achieve even greater results in your creativity.
