An electro-pop sampler of some of the music that’s been sweeping me away this past few days… an office chart of my top 5 tracks of the week, so to speak…. I’ll admit the idea of posting weekly charts has been on my mind for a while but I still find it somehow self-indulgent and egotistical… perhaps if I could convince the other staff members to send me their weekly picks, we could have actual MdM charts. That could be fun. What do you think, my dear readers? Are you up for it?

Note: Inspiration for the title’s post comes of course from Spiritualized’s opus from 1997. Fans of the band will immediatly recognize the shameless rip-off of the opening chords from Spiritualized’s title track in Damian Lazarus’ Moment.
At first I have to admit being annoyed by the almost exact duplicate, fortunately the song redeems itself later on as it transforms into a delightful piece of schizoid pop which is hard not to like. This one pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the playlist, so you’ll be knowing right from the start if this is your sort of trip. Hope you enjoy!

official weekly chart? I got the feeling it will be published every other month at the pace we are going…heh.

I like the idea. but I will lost concentration after 3 weeks or so. we definitely need to work on the pop side of things. Been neglecting it for a good while.

Well, winter is always a bad time for good pop releases. Thankfully the weather is getting better now, looks like it will be a good year for music.

So are you in sq? It should be easy to come up with my top tracks every week… most of the time I have troubles publishing my playlists on time as I get lost searching for that perfect accompanying song in the mix. Coming up with a series of favorite tracks with no genre relation whatsoever, should be ezpeezepie, at least for me.

We’re in need of a recurring feature over here, so doing a tracks of the week thing sounds wicked.
Could be a top 10 every week, 5 you, 5 me. Doesn’t have to be strictly on new music but on recent discoveries, old and new. Should ask the rest of the currently active staff if they’d like to send a couple of songs every week as well. We will need to do a small writeup of tracks we pick, tho and I know how much you like talking about individual tracks :)

    Should I send you a mail :P

moka, i’ll get in trouble very quickly. … my web scanning rate is dropping considerably in the past few month. that’s why I hardly post recent top release. I don’t have time listening and digesting a lot of albums lately. plus I need a new strategy to keep my posting rate after April. things are going to be very messy for me. (I think we need a proper crews and recruit.)

not sure if anybody is interested. but I’ll open a thread at free pony. We seriously need somebody on pop and recent release department. things are getting very abstract around here.

  5. Moka says:

oops I edited my last comment without noticing you answered.
As I said before, doesnt necessarily have to be on new releases, just the tracks you recently discovered or the ones which have been obsessing you each week.
At the moment for example I’ve been obsessed with a Heidi Bruhl song from ’74 and I’d definitely place it in my charts if we were doing them this week.

  6. squashed says:

my last posts are pretty much a list of y minor obsession. I don’t think I have posted any large series or anything that connect with anybody’s posts…(I really should start doing that again…)

but yeah. I’ll do it sporadically I guess.

  7. shortstack says:

Jason Pierce ripped off Elvis and Pachabel for that track, so… who really is Moment paying homage to? :P

  8. Oliver says:

This will be my mini mix for my afternoon train journey!

  9. Chris says:

Oh but I still love the Damian Lazarus track… great little mix you got here.

The song makes its imprint
in the air, making itself felt,
a felt world. Here, there,
the stunned silence

of knowing I will not remember
what I heard;

futures that will never happen,
a fluidity we cannot achieve
except as a child
creating possibility.

This is the untranslatable song
hidden in the earth.
